2025 Praiseworthy Award Winners

The LDSPMA Praiseworthy Awards program recognizes works that are “of good report or praiseworthy” (Articles of Faith 1:13) in multiple categories across the fields of publishing, media, and the arts created by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Each year, the Praiseworthy Awards recognize works released during the previous year that are held up to a professional standard.

We understand that it takes a number of devoted professionals to create a high-quality product. So awards are granted not only to the primary creator but also to the entire team involved in the publication (e.g., author, artist, editor, designer, composer, producer, actor, etc.).

Up to three finalists for each category are listed below (in alphabetical order within each category). The first place, second place, and third place designations will be announced at the LDSPMA Awards Gala on Friday, October 18 at the UVU Sorensen Center. Get tickets to the gala here.

In Types, Shadows, and Casseroles, Hemsath makes finding those symbols and connections a skill anyone can develop by breaking down the symbol-finding process into easy-to-follow steps. With plenty of guided examples, and fresh scriptural insights, Hemsath shows readers how to find new meaning and spiritual significance in familiar objects and stories from the scriptures as well as how to transform their daily experiences into opportunities to grow closer to Christ. “There is something very special about sisterhood…not only sisters by birth but also sisters by choice. As sisters, we look out for one another and want the very best for each other. We wrote Sister in Christ from the perspective of a very protective sister. Although filled with humor, the heart of the message is real: sisters around the world have each other’s back.”

What makes this work praiseworthy?

“This episode with Melanie Hoffman on her original song “Gethsemane” (by the new podcast “17Thousand Songs”) is praiseworthy both in its professional execution and in its contribution to the ongoing Latter-day Saint religious conversation. Although this podcast is independently published with no current sponsorship, the quality of the audio, video, and studio design is top-notch! The host is very engaging, offering valuable questions and responses and the guest’s content is captivating, needful, and spiritually enlightening. This episode with Melanie Hoffman shares the story of how her well-known and beloved children’s song “Gethsemane” was written. A key section is when she shares the moment the Spirit whispered to her mind the lyrics “Gethsemane, Jesus Loves Me,” and she instantly knew that she did, indeed, have a song to write about the Savior’s atonement. This episode also highlights some of her own personal spiritual convictions, such as that “children need to know about the Atonement,” and her advice to other Latter-day Saints to “choose to be chosen.” As a songwriter myself, I was absolutely captivated by every word! At a time when new music is being inducted into our hymn collection quarterly, this podcast has set out to capture the inspiring stories of our most recent hymns in a way that no other outlet has (to my knowledge). Overall, the episode is an important listen and it would represent LDSPMA well to recognize the efforts of this new podcast.”

“This episode of the Leading Saints Podcast provides a powerful example of how to effectively share the gospel and build a thriving community centered on Christ. It features Bishop Devin Pope from Southside Chicago, whose ward has achieved remarkable growth and baptism rates through innovative missionary work and a strong focus on community service. His approach includes “no proselyting zone” events like movie nights and haunted houses, fostering a welcoming environment for those unfamiliar with the Church. The ward’s dedication to serving both its members and the broader community—including welfare assistance and support for migrant families—highlights a practical application of gospel principles. Their adaptability and flexibility in embracing different cultural norms demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and love, while the emphasis on long-term welfare plans and integrating new members underscores a focus on sustainable growth. Viewers and listeners found hope and inspiration for improved ways to reach out and create better communities in the wards and branches of the Church.”

“This groundbreaking short film explores what happened after Jesus Christ healed the leper in Mark 1:40-45 and instructed him, “…go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded” (Mark 1:44). This untold depiction of the Biblical cleansing rituals recounts in beautiful detail the sacred events found in Mark 1 & Leviticus 14, exploring the ritual purification process a healed leper underwent to be restored to their community and to fully worship before the Lord. Through stunning visuals and heartfelt storytelling, this short film captures the intricate steps of the sacred ceremony: the bird and lamb sacrifice, the shaving and washing, and the deep symbolism that foreshadows redemption and renewal. It is a moving portrayal of obedience, hope, and the longing to be made whole.”

“’I Heard the Bells’ is a classic American Christmas carol written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1863 and set to music by John Baptiste Calkin in 1872. Garth teams with choral composer Derek Furch to create a beautiful and complex arrangement that utilizes intricate voicing supported by strings and guitar. Garth and Derek bring a poignant and moving texture to the song on the third verse ‘And in despair I bowed my head…’ with an emotional a Capella delivery, followed by a full-orchestra crescendo exclaiming ‘God is not dead, nor doth he sleep.’”

Even though we can pray anywhere, this song reminds us that prayer truly is a sacred communion with God and whether we are praying on our knees or offering a silent plea in our car or in the middle of a busy day, great blessings come when we treat prayer with reverence.”
